Outfit Guide: Transitioning into chilly season

Since the only season we have in the midwest is ‘cold’, why not make it cute! There are some definite staples that are perfect to incorporate into the transitional season. For example, colors such as greens (olive + winter green), reds (dark + maroon), gray, white, cream, black, and brown are must-have basics that can be paired together, but also add to other pieces to make a statement.

Below are some of my favorite staples + statement pieces ↓

MULE SEASON

Hate wearing socks? Well look no further, mules are here! They pair well with jeans (skinny, straight, flare, boot cut, etc.), black jeans/pants, dresses, skirts, you name it! What I love about mules is that they make a subtle statement yet are so easy to grab, slip on, + go!

SWEATERS ON SWEATERS ON SWEATERS

Sweaters have always been a staple in my wardrobe! And by staple, I mean basically my entire wardrobe (wish I was kidding!). I have too many to count, but they’re good for layering. There are so many different styles - dresses, cardigans, turtle necks, bell sleeves, beaded, long, cropped, etc. which provides versatility. In the chilly season, sweaters are great to pop on with any type of bottom which makes picking out an outfit in the morning before work SO much easier. Whatever your go-to color is, I know there’s TONS of sweaters out there for you to wear! A piece of advice: don’t be afraid to add a pop of color (like the burnt orange above) to your basics. You never know, it might be your new go-to color!

My favorite places to purchase sweaters: H&M, Madewell, Zara, Urban Outfitters

BREAK OUT THOSE BLACK JEANS

What’s great about wearing black on the bottom is that you can wear any color on top! I love pairing my black jeans with jackets (layers!), sweaters, tight long sleeve shirts, + graphic tees. Also, black jeans are easy dress up with heels + boots or dress down with sneakers.

ANY KIND OF BLAZER

Whether your blazer is patterned or solid colored, they’re perfect to wear for a night out on the town! I LOVE being able to dress them up for work (blazer + dress pants) and dress them down (blazer + jeans) for date night. When looking for a blazer right for you, make sure it’s comfortable! You don’t want it too tight where you can barely move. It’s better to size up so you can add some layers under.

My favorite places to purchase blazers: H&M, Express, Zara

TALL BOOTS + VEST

Being short (yes I am 5'‘2’’) doesn’t allow me the opportunity to wear ‘long’ things - dresses, skirts, etc. When it comes to boots though, give me a pair! Tall boots are what I live for because they finally make me look taller!

As for a vest, it’s a must-have during chilly season! They’re a great transitional piece, come in so many colors + overall, so comfortable.

JACKETS

A jacket? A layer? They’re the same thing! I am someone who is ALWAYS cold, so jackets are my saving grace! There are SO many to choose from - jean, bomber, green, leather, workout, cropped, long, etc. and what’s nice about jackets is that you can wear them for any occasion. During quarantine, my athletic jackets from Lululemon have taken the lead on ‘most warn’. Make sure to always have one handy, you never know when the cold is going to hit!
