Self-care with Sammi

“Hi all! My name is Sammi (23) and live in the great state of Minnesota. What you might now know is that I am a feen for skincare and overall self-care. During these crazy quarantine times, self-care is KEY to keeping me sane. While this can be scary for many, I have found it to be a great time to improve or even start your self-care routine! Self-care means something different to everyone, I mean it’s called SELF-care. “

What’s important to note is that what may work for Sammi, may not for you, but here are some ideas on ways to kick start a plan! Most importantly, make sure that your routine is filled with things YOU enjoy.

For Sammi, her self-care routine is 2 things: skincare and baking. I mean, what more do you need? She’s here to walk you through an average day of skincare followed by a couple recipes she’s been whipping up in the kitchen. Before you know it, you’ll be glowing and well fed in no time!

SKINCARE

Skincare is what she likes to call an investment worth making. The trick with skincare is “a little goes a long way” when applying. However, the key is CONSISTENCY. You will not notice results overnight and daily discipline will soon show positive results to your skin! NOTE: everyone’s skin is different, so what works for her, may not for you. However, her skin complexion is normal.

MORNING ROUTINE:

  • STEP 1 - CLEANSE

  • STEP 2 - TONER

    • Product: Witch Hazel Toner from Thayers

      “I believe that toner is MUST use. To apply, I suggest using cotton rounds. You will be shocked the first time you use toner once you see all the dirt that was still on your skin even after washing your face! Like the cleanse, I also use this toner in both my day and night routines.” 

  • STEP 3 - SERUM

    • Product: Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate

      “This serum has a really nice refreshing scent, and you only need a few drops - so despite the slightly expensive price point, it will last a long time!”

  • STEP 4 - DAY CREAM

    • Product: No. 7 Early Defense Day Cream

      “I love the texture of this cream! It also has SPF 30 which is extremely important EVERY SINGLE DAY. Any sunscreen, cream, or moisturizer with SPF should be worn daily to protect yourself from sun damage.“

  • STEP 5 - EYE CREAM

    • Product: Mario Badescu’s Hyaluronic Eye Cream

      NOTE: Make sure to use your ring finger to apply the eye cream. It is the weakest finger and the skin is super fragile under the eye, so be gentle!

  • STEP 6 - MOISTURIZE

    • Product: Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream

      “I have used this moisturizer off and on for years now, and always find myself coming back to it! I do not use it daily - I only use it if my face is feeling extra dry, since the day cream also moisturizes.” 

NIGHT ROUTINE:

BAKING

Baking has this sense of calming that she loves to incorporate into my day. Here are some of my favorite recipes with an end result that is so delicious and worth all of the work. ENJOY!

“These are arguably the BEST cinnamon rolls I have ever eaten. When I took my first bite, I seriously couldn’t believe that I made them!”

The bread may take a few days to prepare and a bit of elbow grease to roll out, but WOW. It is so flaky and almost melts in your mouth.

The recipe calls for apple jam, but I substituted it for strawberry and blackberry jam (1 flavor in each braid).

Beer bread is a fun twist on the classic rustic loaf. The beer taste in the bread is entirely dependent on the beer used in the bread. If you’re a fan of IPAs, they permeate and give the bread a more bitter taste. I prefer to use an ale or lager - the taste is more subtle.
