All Things Apartment
On average, one moves 7-8 times in their life, how crazy is that! But when you really think of it, it seems quite accurate. I’m 23 and have moved 6 times - which includes college-living of course. Moving can be stressful, but once you’re all settled in, there’s nothing like that “home-y” feeling.
Since we were about 12 years old, my best friend, Maggie, and I have talked about living together. We went to different middle schools, high schools, and even colleges so it was something we looked forward to after finally finishing school. To be honest, I didn’t think it would happen - mainly because I was living in Minneapolis at the time and her plan was to move to Nashville upon graduating. 2020 though, has been one wicked year! And here we are, finally living together under one roof.
With that, I’d like to show you around! Below I’ll share some necessities when looking at places to rent, some of my favorite places to find decor, where we purchased some decor, etc. And please, comment below with any additional questions ↓
APARTMENT CHECKLIST
Here’s what Maggie + I looked for when researching + safely touring apartments:
2 bedroom / 1-2 bathroom(s)
Safe area/location
Lots of natural light
Laundry in unit
Spacious / open-concept
Utilities somewhat included
Parking spot(s) available
To keep in mind, everyone has their own checklist! It takes extensive research to find a place that includes everything on your list. Oftentimes, you may even have to compromise a thing or two on it. For us, we sacrificed in-unit laundry for an apartment that’s in a safe location, extremely spacious, exposed brick, tons of natural light, has parking, and all utilities included except for electricity.
PLACES TO SHOP FOR DECOR
KITCHEN
Space was something we LOVE about this apartment. Maggie + I love to host gatherings, dinners, girls nights, movie nights, etc. so this place was perfect in order to make more memories with our loved ones!
Cooking is something we also both enjoy! We often switch nights of the week to cook meals - so that, one can enjoy taking a night off from all of the duties! We have tons of storage, a giant island, and lots of ideas of meals to make.
OFFICE / DESK AREA
With Maggie studying for her boards exam for Nursing, and me keeping up with content for you all to read every week, a desk / office space was very important for us to have! It’s the perfect space to stay motivated + comfortable. Though, in case of the occasional space out, we set it up right in front of a killer view.
LIVING ROOM / SPACE
If I could describe this space in two words it would be welcoming + cozy. The space just invites you to take a seat, enjoy a beverage, and converse with company. In addition, we have plenty of pillows + fuzzy blankets to stay warm during a film.
The drink cart, conveniently located near the living space, just ties everything together. Plus, it’s nice not having to walk very far to refill your beverage :)
Keeping the space open was essential. By adding two chairs instead of another small couch, it really gives the room more texture while fitting perfectly into our color scheme - olive green, cream, with hints of brown from the wood + leather.
BEDROOM
Ta dah, here’s my own space! I love getting inspiration from others, creating mood boards, color schemes, etc. to decorate + design my room. The inspiration behind this space was that I wanted something crisp + comfortable to come home to after a long day and wind down.
White is my main color - it looks fresh, clean, and composed. I accented with warmer tones like yellows/gold, pinks, + wood browns. To me, these colors bring me joy + happiness! So why wouldn’t I want to be surrounded by that?
I love being able to share this space with you guys! We are so happy with how the entire apartment turned out! What did you think?
